Zachary "Flat Head" Thielman

Zach has been diagnosed with Cephaloplagia (Flattened Head). He went in and had x-rays this morning and started physical therapy. I'm not certain what they are hoping or not hoping to find with the x-rays. But the physical therapy is due to his mis-shaped head.

He had his first physical therapy appointment today. It's clear that he favors his right side more than his left. He has decent rotation but the evidence is pretty clear that he favors the right side. Now with the information that the physical therapist gave me we can be more aware of his positioning. It's going to be somewhat difficult to monitor with him being at daycare everyday and Sarah having her hands full enough as it is but there are things she can do to help re-shape his head too without having to watch him like a hawk.

A helmet is an option however insurance does not cover this as it's considered cosmetic. The Physical Therapist didn't seem to think that Zach's condition is bad enough to warrant the helmet anyway. He goes back to PT in a couple weeks. Hopefully we'll see some progress.

I'm going to take a picture of his flat head tonight so that we have a frame of reference when trying to track his progress.

I'll keep you updated on his "condition".

We have a friend whose nickname is "Fatty"...maybe Zach's nickname can be "Flatty"???

Here are Zach's stats from his 4 month check up:
Weight: 15lbs 13 oz
Length: 25.5"
Head Circumference: 17"
Overall: 75%
